Meta Human creator by Epic Games. My first character test.

General / 16 April 2021

Today I finally got access to MetaHuman creator from Epic Games. Anyone can get access. It is enough to go to the site - https://www.unrealengine.com/en-US/metahuman-creator  and click the "Request Access" button.

While this is beta and a lot is missing, but already very impressive. Firstly, I personally was impressed by the fact that the work is done in a browser and I did all this on a weak laptop with a Radeon video card - 2GB.

Secondly, the quality of the characters. It is very close to a real person .. These emotions, wrinkles, pores ... You really believe. And the most important thing is good quality hair. But of course, it will be more interesting to me when they give me the opportunity to import my own groom assets.

I have long dreamed of an editor that would allow me to create a full-fledged character for my hair so quickly in real time... Because really, to create a character of this quality, it takes at least a month ... well, maybe 3-4 for a very high-quality one. According to my fellow characters. And when you want to focus only on hair when customers have spoiled ready-made characters - somehow already spending a month on a character myself - I don't really want to =) Especially when you set yourself a goal - to make a lot of hair and wool ... And this also takes a lot of time ... so many nuances ... And here in a couple of clicks and oops - the character is ready. And then imported his hair and go next =)

Oh, just don't cry that the market for photorealistic characters will now fall ... everyone will be out of work, and so on ...

In short, I'm impressed. I'm waiting for a possibility to import my assets. =) And export it all to Unreal. For now - they don't allow you to export your creation =)

Redshift 3.0.43. RTX ON faster x2.8 times! - RS Principled Hair render test on 2x2080ti+NVLink.

General / 14 April 2021

In this video, I'm showing a render-test of the new Redshift 3.0.43 on my dog project.

The increase in speed on this scene: in one test - x1.7, and in the other x2.8 !!! And this is awesome!

Since with the last test with the scorpion girl - I was a little upset, I was doing different tests all weekend - and threw them here on the forum -https://www.redshift3d.com/forums/viewthread/33548/#226035

During the tests, I came to the conclusion that RTX ON still needs to be improved in Redshift and not all tests are successful. We are already discussing these points with NVidia and the Redshift Team. I think that in subsequent releases, the situation will improve on those scenes that did not show acceleration ...

Perhaps the reason for the slowdown in RTX ON in previous tests was the choice of the Hilbert method + increasing the bucket size to 256 ... I don't know. We need to check ... But here I left the default method - Spiral and bucket = 128 and it got a strong acceleration ... In general, I still need to communicate with the Redshift and NVIDIA developers, including =)

In the meantime, I want to share with you the good news and this video. There is a very good increase in this scene and the RTX ON technology has shown itself in all its glory =)

First, I tested the scene with Ornatrix Fur - without collapsing and baking the modifier stack.

Total wool - 3 million 200 thousand

Since the stack was not collapsed, PreCache was quite long - 14 minutes. But the render itself with RTX ON - pleased me =)

RTX OFF = 34 min

RTX ON = 20 min

Speed increase by 1.7 times.

We must also remember that Redshift slightly improved this version and apparently - my tests and scenes on the forum - helped with this =)

It was here that Optix 7.2, which was added to the new NVidia Studio drivers, showed its power of rendering. It is on hair and wool that Nvidia talked about in their articles about it.

In the test, I used NVIDIA Studio 461.92 drivers.

Next, knowing that PreCache is long, I decided to convert all the wool to RS Proxy. I usually do this in my projects, as the render speed increases significantly. I advise the same thing in the lessons =)

As a result, PreCache was only 17 seconds, and the render, as expected, became much faster.

RTX OFF = 19 min 44 sec

RTX ON = 7 min 14 sec

Speed increase 2.7 times!

Considering the fact that I also converted to proxy:

RTX OFF 1.7x faster

RTX ON 2.8x faster!

Here I am convinced that NVIDIA GPUs when combined with Studio drivers, provide a high level of performance and capabilities for the most demanding graphics applications. Find out what benefits NVIDIA GPU acceleration provides for your favorite applications by following this link - https://bit.ly/2R98DwF

This video is not intended to humiliate other renders. I have already repeated this 100 times and will repeat it again. I'm just interested in checking the performance of different renders in different situations - on my video cards. And it is with my projects. Since I often do hair, this is my main occupation - I show such projects. They are very resource-intensive. As you can see, this scene has consumed almost all 11GB, but thanks to NVLink and "OOC" technologies, it is rendered without problems on the GPU.

And yet - I have no goal of comparing renders. I do not like to do this, because I believe that everyone is good in their own way and each has its own advantages, and I never pay attention to the disadvantages.

Therefore, I record a series of videos - not just comparisons of each of them, but separate tests of each render on certain scenes.

Redshift 3.0.41. RS Principled Hair render test on 2x2080ti+NVLink. RTX ON/OFF

General / 04 April 2021

In this video, I am showing a render-test of the new Redshift 3.0.41 on my recent project, which is already familiar to you from my previous tests. Since it has a new Hair Physical Material based on Disney research and I wanted to check how much slower it will render. Why was I already sure it was slower? Because many have already complained at the forum, but also since the material has become physically correct - naturally, it transmits more light and requires big miscalculations. But honestly, I didn't really get into all this .. I'm not a physicist or a mathematician. I am a creator with a creative mindset .. Therefore, for me - if only it renders beautifully and quickly, and what is there in physics and what processes are taking place is not very interesting =)

Info about RTX SpeedUP - https://bit.ly/2R98DwF

The release of new NVIDIA Studio drivers also pushed me to this test. After all, Optix 7.2 was added to them, in which they promised to speed up the rendering of hair on RTX.

Showed a variant with CUDA and RTX. But there is clearly something wrong with RTX, since, logically, the scene should be rendered 2-4 times faster, because this happens on ordinary scenes without hair.

The previous test had the same problem and I even wrote about it on the forum -https://www.redshift3d.com/forums/viewthread/33548/

Cyberpunk 2077 - Cinematic RTX | DLSS - OFF | #GameReferences - 3 | 2*RTX™2080 Ti & i9-9900k

General / 31 January 2021

Another walkthrough Cyberpunk 2077.

I finally found a normal camera mod that lets you fly wherever you want. However, there is one nuance. If you fly away from the character, everything becomes sprite =) So be careful with that. At some points in my video - this is also visible =)

The mod is called IGCS Camera Mod by Otis Inf

Link - https://github.com/FransBouma/InjectableGenericCameraSystem/releases/tag/CP102

As in episode 2 - I disabled DLSS and added the Cinematic RTX command to the console. Yes - FPS dropped from 60 to 30. Sometimes it varies - from 30 to 45, and sometimes drops to 22. But the quality is much better. Everything is less blurry and clearer.

This game amazing! I haven't felt such immersion for a long time ..

DLSS vs NO DLSS = https://www.facebook.com/artofcharly/posts/1786873798135950

It turns out in this game - DLSS very much blurred trees and other small details. Since in these references - I don't run very fast and rotate the camera, I think that even 30 fps will be comfortable. But if only to keep that cool quality, and not to blur it.

So, I do Upscale in 4K, because this way - the video is obtained in the same quality - as if I recorded it in this resolution. That is, the quality is not lost and I immediately recommend turning on 4K resolution so as not to spoil the impression. + The channel is new and if I do everything in 1080, then Youtube will assign the lousy avc codec, which further reduces the quality. Time-tested. So please treat this with understanding and not hate it for writing 4K =) Although ... do what you want =)

This is not your typical fast-paced gameplay. Not a speedrun walkthrough =) No ...

The purpose of these videos is to collect various refs from games for 2D and 3D artists. That is, yes, here - I play games, but very slowly - to examine different details where the game allows it. Where possible, I turn on the photo- mode and show even more interesting details, screenshots, etc.
