WIP 02 - Grooming for "Commander" (Collaboration with Samir Mir) - Nov 19, 2021

Not a lot of changes, mostly - looking for uniforms and working with guides. A lot - still in process =)
- Improved the left side, added more clumps and variety. (still in process)
-Improved the backside.
- Removed some of the gaps
- I see that "horn" on the left side =) Should I keep it? Will be his specialty =) ahahah.
In this project - I'm experimenting with new tools in Ornatrix, so sometimes I run into things that I would not allow in the "normal" workflow =) Because I haven't quite figured out yet - how the new one works. Need to experiment more =)

WIP 01 - Grooming for "Commander" (Collaboration with Samir Mir) - Nov 4, 2021

Hello everyone!

This is the first WIP related to grooming for "Commander" from Samir Mir. It was our common idea to create something together. Because collaborations are always good for both parties. And this is very interesting. After all, when everyone is engaged in their own task, in which they are cool, it turns out cool joint work.

I started making him about 7 months ago, and 5 months ago I released the first Making of =) From time to time I return to this character and make it a little bit.

I record every step and gradually post it on Youtube. So I think it will be interesting =)

On the channel, I’m a little distracted by writing an article about "HairCards" and my departure from this area, so I slowed down the whole process a little, but in my free time, I’m working on this character and finally got to the first render that I can show you. Naturally, there is still a lot of work to be done to bring it to perfection. Yes, and eyebrows with eyelashes - I need to do too =) But I will do this - when I finish the hair, beard, and mustache.

Finally, I solved the problem with the shadows on the back of the head and now everything looks no worse than the result in Arnold Renderer, which I sent to Epic Games =) If interested, you can read the whole dialogue here - https://ue4alembichairqa.blogspot.com/2021 /07/strange-shadow-spots.html 

This will help resolve all issues if you run into this too.
Now the next step is to optimize the hairstyle(from Xgen it 250K strands) and upload it here to the Store =) + I also want to correct some points that I don't like.
By the way, for this render, I used Lumen and Unreal Engine 5. That is the result looks better than in 4.26.2 and 4.27 =)

Custom hair for Metahuman - Cooper ( WIP - June 20, 2021)

I continue to look for a solution to the problem with shadows (incomprehensible patches on the back of the head, although everything is ok with hair there) together with Epic Games. They advised me to turn on DeepShadow and this practically solved the problem - the transition from short to long hair looks better, but another problem appeared - too harsh shadows at the top ...












Now I'm waiting for a response from them, but for now here are some notes on what doesn't suit me and the Arnold Render of the same hairstyle.

For example, here is a comparison of the result of WIP-1 and WIP-2. What I noticed after turning on Deep Shadow - the hairstyle became much darker due to the harsh black shadows ...


And here is a render of the same hairstyle in Arnold Render.
  


What I don't like at the moment about the Unreal Engine rendering and what I am currently fighting with with Epic Games =)

Very sharp and black shadows ... Although CVars should have blurred them a little.


Strange blurry hair patches, although in reality - they are not there ... And the Dof in the camera is off.
  

Once again - Arnold Renderer =)

Small teaser. In addition to transferring the hairstyle to Meta-woman, I also took up Meta-man, I alternate it all by weeks =) in my free time - time.
So far, there are a lot of problems with the render, which I deal with ... and the shader needs to be tormented .. but here's what I already have =)
In fact, there are no bald spots .. and these are some kind of problems with shadows ... I also figth with this too =)
